5 Years Japan ✈🇯🇵

These days, five years ago, I ventured on my first trip to Japan. Looking back, it was one of the best travels I did so far and I am looking forward to plan my next trip to Japan at the end of the year.

Recap to the beginning of 2017. My research stay at Stanford University neared its end and I was preparing to return home. In one week I traveled across the U.S. before leaving for Switzerland.
My route: San Francisco → Chicago → Boston → New York → Zurich.

I have to admit I have been neglecting this blog for some weeks now. Both transitioning into a new routine and being generally busy made it hard for me to write about my daily life here. So let me give a round-up about my life in the US in the last month.

Let’s talk about football. And to clarify, I do not mean soccer but the iconic American sport were full body-contact and intense fan-chanting are in the center. While I have neglible interest in sports I wanted to give it a shot and experience how a game feels like.

As October comes in, the weather slowly becomes cooler and cloudier. Still, we are talking about California, meaning there will be some clouds from now on and it gets a bit chilly in the mornings while being warm at noon.

The past week was filled with introductions, and involved meeting new people and free food. Not only did the Graduate Student Council host dozens of events during the Graduate Orientation Week, other organs and student organizations contributed their individual ones.

This time I want to show you the copious and green campus of Stanford University. And since a picture is worth a thousand words, please enjoy this collection of photos I took.

Finally Sunday, I thought. After my first week of full-time work I longed for the weekend. On this day I find time to write, go shopping and can enjoy various activities. This day an event I wanted to attend took place in San Francisco, so I took the Caltrain up to the metropolis.

My project at Stanford is interesting but also time consuming so far, this is why I can only write entries every other week. Concerning my new daily routine, I am in the lab 10-7 on six days a week.

Monday is Labor Day, so I got to spend an elongated weekend at home. I could make good use of the time by exploring the surrounding, going shopping and preparing this article.

In the morning of September 1st I hurried to the train station and took the outbound CalTrain to Palo Alto. The commuter train cannot be compared to trains in Switzerland but it gets its job done.

Perfume performed their 6th world tour Cosmic Explorer and I was with them in San Francisco on August 28, 2016.

You must have heard that SF and the Bay Area are the spots to be for start-ups and internet based companies. When I checked the map of the area today I found a pin saying Niantic just a few minutes from my apartment.

Like yesterday I went to the grocery store in the morning and picked up something fresh for breakfast. In the later morning I followed the coastline from South Beach up to Financial District.

When I arrived at the flat on Saturday evening my host was in the middle of eating dinner. He spontaneously invited me to join what I was grateful for.
